Science Fair!

The grade fours participated in their first ever Science Fair last week.  I was very impressed by their creativity and excitement!  They were judged by local volunteers and 4 groups from our class were chosen to continue to the Provincials in Charlottetown in April!  Great job grade fours!!

Winter Activities!

Wow, it has been far too long since I posted on our blog!  What a busy/fun winter we're been having in 4A!  We enjoyed an afternoon of snowshoeing a few weeks ago.  The weather was just perfect and we were able to shed the coats and snowpants and have some fun!  It sure was a great time!  Check out our classroom door for some great pictures!

Milk Carton Castles!

Our castles are nearing completion and they are looking fabulous!  This project was part of our Literacy Program as we are focusing on procedural writing and sequencing (putting things in order).  Students had to follow the king's instructions carefully as they constructed with their team.  This project also incorporated curriculum outcomes for mathematics, art, and team building!  Great job Fantastic Fours!  The castles will be on display in the lobby of the school for the next week if parents or guardians would like to take a peek! :)

1 Litre Milk Cartons

Hi everyone!  Thanks for dropping by our class blog!  I know it's been awhile since I have posted on here, but you all know how things get!  I really enjoyed meeting with each of you over the last few days of Parent-Teacher Interviews!!

We are still looking for a few more 1 litre milk cartons for our castle making project we will be starting next week (hopefully!!).  If you have any more to contribute that would be great!

Also, multiplication flash cards will be going home with your child on Monday.  If you can have your child cut them out and keep them in the baggie to practise each night it would be a huge benefit to your child!

Lets hope the warm weather continues and we can keep enjoying the sunshine :)

Pie-Throw!

Well, today was quite the day at Athena!  In the afternoon the whole school participated in the Terry Fox run/walk around the soccer and baseball field.  After the run was the pie throw!  Students who paid their $5 got to throw a whip-cream pie at a teacher of their choice!  Take a look at a few of the pictures.  It was quite messy and slimy!! A great day all round!

Computer Lab on Fri. Sept 30, 2011

Hello my Fantastic Fours!
I hope you have had a great few days with Mr. Belbin!

First, please make sure to connect the printer to the Computer Lab!  Josh (our peer helper will show you how to do this!)  This morning in the Computer Lab I would like you to open up Microsoft Word by clicking on the Student file.  The symbol for Microsoft Word is a big blue W!  When you have opened it I would like you to type me a paragraph (4-5 sentences) telling me who your hero is.  Your hero could be someone who you look up to, or want to be like when you grow-up, or the most important person in your life.  Make sure to tell me why that person is your hero.

My paragraph would look something like this:

My hero would definitely be my mom.  She is my hero because she is always very positive, encouraging, hard-working and funny!  Whenever I am feeling down I know I can call my mom and she will always make me feel better.  She always laughs and smiles and I want to be just like her when I grow up!

When you are finished your paragraph make sure your name is on it and print it.

Have a wonderful weekend.  I'm looking forward to seeing you all on Monday :)
